According to a company release, GRG Banking’s end-to-end solution, which enables multiple manual processes to be automated, is aimed at optimizing the entire cash supply chain from front to back-office so that bank and retail employees will no longer come frequently into contact with cash.

At the core of the solution is an intelligent cash cassette, which is equipped with on-board smart chips. The memory chips store and carry a variety of information, such as how many notes are contained in the cassette, note currency or denomination and access history and error codes. As a result, these intelligent cassettes enable fast exchange of cash; for example, the cash taken from a retail store can be transferred directly to a nearby ATM, eliminating the need for taking cassettes to a CIT operator’s cash center and counting the cash there.

Software applications are also provided and controlled by a centralized cash cycle management base, which supports multi-institutional reports for dispute processing and account reconciliation.

(1888PressRelease) April 16, 2010 – Dubai – Luup International Ltd., a leading mobile payments solutions provider of Norwegian origin, and Emirates International Exchange (EIE), a leading exchange house in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), today signed an Agreement to roll-out a mobile phone based payroll solution. It will enable migrant and local workers’ wages to be paid onto a mobile wallet or a mobile-enabled payroll card. The mobile wallet and card holder will then be able to withdraw cash at EIE locations in the UAE and make mobile remittance transactions through the Luup mobile remittance gateway.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of HE Trond Giske, Minister of Trade and Industry of Norway and member of the high profile delegation with HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway. The delegation is on a two-day visit to strengthen ties between Norway and the UAE.

The global mobile payments market is a huge growth area at present, with research indicating that its value will reach US$ 553 billion (AED 2.029 trillion) by 2013. Moreover, there is the huge potential to reach an estimated 364 million unbanked people, who tend to have access to a mobile phone, by agent-networked mobile banking . In the Middle East alone, businesses such as the EIE can tap into 15 million migrant workers in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. As these workers remit 50 percent of their salary home, an estimated sum of US$3.195 billion (AED 11.73 billion) a month , the revenue potential to be gained by mobile enabling transactions is clear.

Cash continues to be the number one payment medium. “Nine of ten payment transactions worldwide are made with cash. Our estimates show that this creates more than 300 billion dollars in costs, primarily for banks and retail businesses,” explains Eckard Heidloff, President and CEO of Wincor Nixdorf, at the opening of Wincor World 2010. The number of euro banknotes alone is growing at the rate of nine percent yearly according to the European Central Bank. On the whole, cash handling in Europe costs approximately 50 billion euros every year. Thus Heidloff presented a solution portfolio as the kickoff to Wincor World that makes the most of the common ground in cash handling processes at retail companies and banks, and takes a completely new approach. The portfolio, which Wincor Nixdorf is marketing under the name “Cash Cycle Management Solutions”, enables manual processes to be automated, with the result that bank and store employees no longer come into contact with cash. The results: maximum security, the greatest possible transparency, better processes and cost reductions of more than twenty percent.

Heidloff emphasized that Wincor Nixdorf continues to be a reliable and stable solution partner to banks and retailers. New systems with intelligent banknote storage concept

With its new Cash Cycle Management portfolio, Wincor Nixdorf aims to automate cash handling processes at banks and retail companies as completely as possible, ensure closed cash cycles and shorten the cash logistics chain. This is achieved by using systems in both banking and retailing that feature a uniform banknote storage concept that enables the exchange of storage media between devices from the new hardware family, CINEO. A memory chip in the storage unit stores information that is available at any time on both the level of cash inside and where and when the unit was used or opened. As a result, banknotes deposited at a bank branch’s counter and stored in intelligent storage units in an automated teller safe can be dispensed again at automated teller machines. Similarly, a closed cash cycle can be created in retailing between the POS zone and the store’s cash office, where, for example, the cash in the individual tills is counted. The banknote storage units used to store cash takings at a retail store can be transferred directly to nearby automated teller machines, thereby eliminating the need for the takings to be removed to a CiT operator’s cash center and processed there.

In a future scenario, cash centers, bank branches and retail stores will all be able to be integrated in the cycle. The core of this approach is that the automated filling and emptying of cash cassettes in the cash center’s sorting systems enables cross-sector cash cycle management.

For controlling cash handling processes from the store/branch to the central bank, Wincor Nixdorf offers Cash Cycle Management Base, a comprehensive software portfolio that allows banks and retail companies to manage and optimize these processes themselves. NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today announced it has signed a multimillion dollar deal with Westpac New Zealand to implement the country’s most up-to-date, standards-compliant ATM network and help fulfil the bank’s promise of better service in its branches.

By June 2010, more than 400 devices — 80 percent of the bank’s network – will be replaced with next generation NCR SelfServ ATMs, helping the bank reduce costs and improve customer service. In its new community branches, Westpac will deploy the NCR Teller Cash Recycler (TCR) solution, which promotes more face-to-face contact between customers and staff.

As well as ATM and TCR hardware and software, the deal includes on-site maintenance, remote support and helpdesk services for up to nine years in renewable three-year terms. The NCR Managed Services offering will help the bank maximise the performance and availability of the ATM network, ensuring its services are available whenever customers need them.

“Our agreement with NCR means Westpac’s customers will enjoy the best ATM experience possible thanks to the very latest technology, some of which has not been seen in New Zealand before,” said Anand Ranchord, Westpac New Zealand’s business development manager.

“They will experience the fastest ATM transactions, the world’s biggest touchscreen interface and be protected by the highest levels of security and standards compliance available anywhere.”

The new NCR technology will play a central role in the bank’s return to more convenient, community-based banking announced in December last year. Under the initiative, Westpac New Zealand is opening new, smaller branches in a bid to get closer to its customers.

The branches’ 24-hour lobbies will feature NCR SelfServ ATMs equipped with “intelligent” deposit functionality and an integrated night safe so that personal and business customers can deposit cash and cheques at a time convenient to them, instead of being restricted to branch opening times.

Inside the new branches, NCR’s Teller Cash Recycler solution will enable staff and customers to enjoy more face-to-face contact. TCRs quickly and securely accept, count and dispense cash, allowing branch tellers to focus their attention on the customer, not on the transaction. Up to 40 percent of a teller’s time today is spent just counting and re-counting cash.
