Wincor Nixdorf pioneers bank branch transformation in Indonesia
Wincor Nixdorf pioneers bank branch transformation in Indonesia
Revenues increase at redesigned Bank Central Asia branches
Bank Central Asia (BCA), one of Indonesia’s largest banks, has partnered with Wincor Nixdorf to rejuvenate its branch network. The goal of the new open-concept branch is to create an environment that offers faster and more efficient services, while fostering comfort and discretion for visitors.
“Through the branch we want to strengthen our relationship with our customers, so the transformation had to reflect exactly what customers wanted and how we could improve our service offering to them,” said Lilik Winarni, Chief Manager of Operation Strategy & Design at the Bank of Central Asia (BCA).
In consultation with BCA, Wincor Nixdorf and its architect partner Kranz InnenArchitekten redesigned the new branches into three distinct zones: customer service, teller-transaction and the self-service area which feature Wincor Nixdorf’s ATM and kiosk terminal solutions.
Wincor Nixdorf has created an environment that optimizes foot-traffic patterns for BCA to ensure that its customers are directed to the appropriate bank areas immediately. Customers now wait in ‘active waiting zones’ where they can view digital signage for the latest product offers from the bank, daily news and advertisements.
“The branch transformation project has improved interaction with customers at both new branches and as a result revenues have jumped by approximately 20 to 30 percent for consumer products such as credits cards, car loans and mortgages,” added Winarni.
BCA completed a recent branch transformation project in Jakarta in March 2009, with the first successful project also in the capital city in October 2008. The bank is aiming to duplicate the open-concept design across other branches in the future after receiving feedback from customers that it exceeded their expectations.

NCR to build innovation hub and manufacturing plant in Brazil, boosting jobs in the high tech segment
New engineering and manufacturing facility to strengthen NCR’s competitive position by delivering a broader range of self-service solutions and responding faster to customer requirements in growth markets of Brazil and Caribbean and Latin America
June 15, 2009
DULUTH, Georgia – NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) announced today that it will create a new manufacturing and research and development center in Brazil to produce technologically advanced, high availability automated teller machines (ATMs) for Brazil, Latin America, and Caribbean markets. The innovation center and manufacturing facility will expand over time to include self-service technologies for a variety of industries.
The new innovation hub will initially create approximately 250 new jobs and enable NCR to deliver world-class solutions and strengthen its competitive position in Brazil, which is a key market in NCR’s growth strategy. Brazil is the third largest ATM market in the world. Retail Banking Research predicts that the Brazil ATM market will grow 16 percent by 2012.
“NCR has been doing business in Brazil for 73 years,” said Bill Nuti, NCR’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Our strategic decision to develop an innovation and manufacturing hub for self-service technology in Brazil is yet another step in our commitment to this important market. This investment will move us further towards our goal of becoming Brazil’s largest self-service solutions provider and the leader in ATM market share. With this new capability, we believe we will be better positioned to take market share by providing leading hardware, software and service solutions, tailored specifically to meet the needs of our customers and fulfilling our goals of growing our business, while lowering our operating costs. As we invest and create high tech jobs, we will continue to look at our options for further investment in this vital emerging market.”
NCR’s ATM production in the region is currently outsourced to a contract manufacturer. ATM manufacturing and product development will be moved to NCR’s new facility and production is anticipated to begin by December 2009.
Security Alert: Malicious software (malware) found installed on compromised ATMs (Automated Teller Machines)
Trustwave’s SpiderLabs performed the analysis of malicious software (malware) found
installed on compromised ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) in the Eastern European
region. This malware captures magnetic stripe data and PIN codes from the private memory
space of transaction-processing applications installed on a compromised ATM. The
compromised ATMs discussed in this briefing ran Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system.
The malware contains advanced management functionality allowing the attacker to fully
control the compromised ATM through a customized user interface built into the malware.
This interface is accessible by inserting controller cards into the ATM’s card reader.
SpiderLabs analysts do not believe the malware includes networking functionality that
would allow it to send harvested data to other, remote locations via the Internet. The
malware does, however, allow for the output of harvested card data via the ATM’s receipt
printer or by writing the data to an electronic storage device (possibly using the ATM’s card
reader). Analysts also discovered code indicating that the malware could eject the cash-
dispensing cassette.
What follows is a high-level summary of the key features identified during Trustwave’s in-
depth analysis of the malware sample. It is, however, believed that this is a relatively early
version of the malware and that subsequent versions have seen significant additions to its
functionality.
